Mark-Anthony Effy Giordano, a 13-year-old eighth-grade student at Harrison's Louis M. Klein Middle School, died on Sunday, June 9 after falling from the parking garage next to the Harrison Metro-North train station, according to MTA officials.
According to officials, around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, a group of five minors had been on the parking garage's fifth story. At this time, Giordano lost control of his electric-powered bicycle and was found on the ground next to the building. He was then taken to White Plains Hospital and was declared dead on arrival.
Since his death, Giordano has been remembered for the stunning success he had already had in both wrestling and football. During his time with the Harrison Varsity Wrestling Team classing at 220 pounds, he made it to the championship sectionals and won impressive awards, including the Rye High School Bernie Miller Tournament 2023 Most Outstanding Wrestler and the Harrison High School 2023 Rookie of the Year Award.
According to his obituary, his success on the team was "diabolical."
"He managed to push the boundaries every time he stepped foot on the matt," his obituary read.
Giordano was not only a standout wrestler, as he had also been planning on starting Varsity football in the fall as a freshman. Since dedicating his life to the sport at age 6, Giordano helped lead the Pelham football team to an undefeated season in 2019.
"His success was only a mere reflection of his strength and ability to bring people closer together," his obituary read, continuing, "Anyone who knew Mark-Anthony, knew his perfect smile that made everyone around him feel nearly as warm and infectious as he was."
